Following two outstandingly successful concerts, the City of Cardiff Philharmonia assembles again for the third time in conjunction with Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra and City of Cardiff Symphony Orchestra in aid of Velindre Cancer Hospital.
A Germanic first half commences with the huge sound of Richard Wagner's Die Meistersingers Overture, followed by a rare opportunity to hear one of the masterpieces of the French Horn repertoire - the Konzertstück for four horns by Robert Schumann. The soloists for this are the horn section of Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra - Richard Crompton, Gareth Williams, Robert Kay and Dai Williams.
The second half of the concert takes us across the Atlantic Ocean to North America, where we will be performing Leonard Bernstein's effervescent, but ultimately tragic Westside Story Symphonic Dances and finishing off in carnival mood with the irresistibly rhythmic Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez.
Conducted again by CPO flautist and Velindre patient Martin May, and led by CPO leader Jill Francis-Williams, this concert has something for everyone and is not to be missed!
As with previous years, all profits will go directly to Velindre Cancer Hospital - we have currently raised nearly £10,000 for this world class Hospital of Hope. Please help us raise more this year and enjoy a great evening of live music making in the process!
Tickets are priced at £20 and are available HERE
Every penny, after costs, will be donated to the hospital.
